Raise a stein to celebrate Oktoberfest on the Gold Coast

With German culture, dancing and pretzels.

Ever dreamed of dancing ‘til you drop at one of the world’s biggest cultural festivals but could never seem to make it happen? Well, pop on your very best beer wench threads and begin to up your beer intake because Oktoberfest is coming to the Gold Coast.

Mark Saturday, October 5th in your calendar as the day you will experience the best of German culture right here in our own backyard.

The Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre in Carrara will host the multicultural festival for the very first time with attendees set to experience the traditional culture of Munich’s beloved Oktoberfest.

Based on history and festivities from the past, Oktoberfest will deliver a traditional event with a modern twist that’s bound to be a day to be remembered.

The centre will be completely transformed into a Bavarian theme complete with a giant beer hall, alfresco dining area, multiple stages and of course, all of the tastiest German food and beverages.

The German Sausage Hut will provide a mouth-watering selection of German frankfurters with sauerkraut and freshly baked pretzels.

Oktoberfest will offer a fine selection of beverages including traditional German brewed beer by Weihenstephan and specially brewed German beers from Newstead Brewing Co. A selection of wine and other German favourites will also be available.

Of course, the entertainment will also be perfectly themed with German music and dance the perfect way to get amongst the frivolity after a stein or two and there’ll also be a Mr and Mrs Oktoberfest strongman competition.

To ensure the event is as close as possible to Munich’s Oktoberfest, there’ll be big brass bands on show along with some of Australia’s favourite DJs and a few local ones too.

If you’re looking for something a little bit different to go to on the Gold Coast, look no further.

Unearth your Lederhosen, grab a good time crew and get ready for a day of dancing, drinking and traditional German culture.

Early bird tickets are onsale now from $19.95 but get in quick.

Travis Scott headlines two-day SandTunes beach festival

Summer is rapidly approaching (did it ever really leave though?) and with it, a slew of warm weather-friendly activities that you should start pumping the crew up for immediately.

No friends, we’re not just talking balmy Talle Creek BBQs and Sunday sessions on Burleigh Hill, although those things are two of the very best reasons to live on the Gold Coast – we’re talking music festivals and foodie events and frolicking about outside at every given opportunity.

The latest event to hit our radar is a brand new festival called Sandtunes, which is both a delightful name made just for our sun-soaked city AND what’s set to be a very good time on the shores of Coolangatta.

It’s taking place on Saturday 30th November and Sunday 1st December, an epic introduction to what will no doubt be an endless summer (because they always are around here) and we’re pretty pumped about it.

Sandtunes will see some of the world’s biggest names including Travis Scott, Logic, Cvrches, Carly Rae Jaspen (call her maybe), Dean Lewis, Alice Ivy, Cub Sport, Sampa the Great and Tkay Maidza take to the stage and that is quite the lineup to roll us into summer, Gold Coast style.

No doubt you’re aware of the tunes of headliner Travis Scott, who will bring his larger than life presence to the sand of Coolangatta, as well as the tunes of his latest album ASTROWORLD. They say it’s “sonic funhouse, classic Houston drip bounces off the walls between psychedelic instrumentation, woozy rhymes and candy-coated hooks, evincing his clever lyricism and unshakable cadences in widescreen HD bliss”.

Which loosely translates to the perfect opportunity to dance up a storm (probably).

On the completely opposite end of the scale, Carly Rae Jaspen will be there to bring her good time pop beats and if that’s not a festival-wide singalong waiting to happen, what is?

Beloved Cvrches will take the stage bringing their Scottish synth pop, while Aussie gal Alice Ivy offers up a taste of her cruisy tunes.

The rest of them are pretty good too, something for everyone, we can’t wait honestly.

So there you go friends, in case you weren’t excited enough for summer to roll around again, here’s the perfect way to celebrate its return.

Early bird tickets are onsale now and start at $209 for a one-day pass.

We suggest going for two though, obviously.
